Fractures

In older people or patients with osteoporosis falls from low heights or while sitting – from a sitting down position are enough, to let bones fracture (bagatelle trauma). Fractures are grave consequences of falls. Mostly fractures of the spinal column (vertebral body), of the distal arm (distal radius) and of the proximal femur (hip fractures) occur.

All types of fractures are combined with grievous pain. Besides appropriate pain therapy, the therapy for vertebral body fractures are immobilisation in a neutral position with braces and casts for distal arm fractures. Hip fractures have the most severe consequences and mostly require surgery of the proximal femur and implantation of joint replacements (hip fractures).
