Hip Protectors

The effects of hip-protectors are based on mechanical  protection of the hip region. By placing protection pads on the hip, a force directed to the proximal femur during a fall, will be absorbed. The effects of hip-protectors  amounts to 90 percent. If all people, who are  at risk would wear a hip-protector (100 % wearing quota) 50 % of hip fractures could be avoided.

Hip protectors have several advantages: They offer direct prevention at the hip region (mechanical prevention). If worn they have an immediate effect.  Hip protectors give protection during work and physical activity. Persons, who wear hip protectors, subjectively feel that they are better guarded, so they have less fear of falls or fractures. This enables participation in social life instead of a threatening isolation.

The main disadvantage of hip protectors currently available lies in the material and shape. Either they consist of rigid, bulky structures or large elements covered with sweat producing fabrics. Both types impair wearing comfort. This is the reason why most peoples refrain from wearing hip protectors long-term.
